Australians are warmly invited to come together for World Meditation Day on December 21 at 5:00 pm local time at participating Transcendental Meditation® (TM) centres across the country for a shared moment of harmony and unity.

This unique event celebrates deeper connections and world peace and welcomes people of all backgrounds—whether you practise Transcendental Meditation or have never meditated before.

World Meditation Day was officially declared by the United Nations General Assembly on December 6, 2024 and will be observed annually on December 21. The designation reflects the world body’s recognition of meditation’s role in fostering mental and emotional wellbeing and broadening understanding among individuals and societies.

Scientific research on Transcendental Meditation also highlights the collective impact of the meditation practice. Studies on the Maharishi Effect® show that when as little as one percent of a population practises TM, measurable improvements in social harmony, reduced stress and positive societal trends have been observed in various contexts.

There are nearly 50 published studies that demonstrate the powerful influence of people coming together to practice Transcendental Meditation and its impact in creating peace in the environment.

“This is an opportunity for all Australians to come together and dive deep within themselves to radiate peace and harmony in our communities,” said Mustafa Nuristani, spokesman for Transcendental Meditation Australia.

“We can’t deny the real need for harmony and peace right now. And World Meditation Day is for everyone—regardless of whether they practice Transcendental Meditation technique.”

Participants are invited to gather at their local TM centre for a group meditation designed to foster a sense of unity, compassion and quiet reflection. The event is an important reminder that peace and harmony begin within the individual and resonate outward when many minds come together in stillness.
