Building on the teachings of his master Brahmananda Saraswati, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi revived the ancient tradition of effortless Transcendental Meditation, firstly in India and from 1957 onwards, to the rest of the world.

Over a 40-year period, Maharishi personally trained thousands of Certified TM Teachers and established not-for-profit educational organisations in over 60 countries to facilitate teaching of the TM technique.

Today, more than 12 million people from all over the world have learnt TM. School children to academics, military personnel and celebrities have all experienced the benefits of TM in their lives.

What is TM and how does it work?

TM is a simple, natural, effortless technique practiced for 20 minutes twice each day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed.

The ancient TM technique allows your active mind to easily settle inward, through quieter levels of thought, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness – pure consciousness. Over time individual consciousness expands and the mind remains in a quiet state of least excitation, even during dynamic activity.

“Enlightenment is the normal, natural state of health for the body and mind. It results from the full development of consciousness and depends upon the perfect and harmonious functioning of every part of the body and nervous system. When one is using the full potential of the mind and body in this way, every thought and action is spontaneously correct and life supporting. This is life free from suffering, life lived in its full stature and significance. The goal of the Transcendental Meditation technique is the state of enlightenment. This means we experience that inner calmness, that quiet state of least excitation, even when we are dynamically busy.” Maharishi
