A Melbourne university student says the practice of Transcendental Meditation® (TM) helped him find the meaning of life while reducing his anger and increasing his “inner happiness and calm”.

Rishav Raj, a 22-year-old university student, was searching for the meaning of life and his purpose on earth.

However, all of that changed after he discovered the power of Transcendental Meditation just a few months ago.

“I was becoming more and more curious about the meaning of life and wanting to know what life and meditation truly is,” Rishav said.

“It was starting to impact my relationships and my studies as I was easily becoming angry and frustrated. I knew I needed to make a change.”

That change came when Rishav’s friend Samik introduced him to Transcendental Meditation. At first, Rishav was sceptical – he associated meditation with old gurus and strange spiritual practices. But Samik convinced him to give it a try.

“I really didn’t know what to expect,” Rishav said.

“But from the very first meditation session, I could feel a difference. There was this sense of calmness and clarity that I had never experienced before.”

As Rishav continued to practice TM regularly, he noticed profound changes in his daily life. His once-fiery temper began to cool, and he found himself responding to stressful situations with more patience and understanding.

“Before, I would just react without thinking,” he explains. “But now, I find myself taking a step back, observing my thoughts and feelings, and then choosing how to respond in a more constructive way.”

Rishav’s improved emotional regulation has had a ripple effect on other areas of his life as well.

His studies, which had previously been a source of frustration, have become more engaging and enjoyable. He finds himself eager to dive deeper into his coursework, driven by a genuine curiosity rather than a sense of obligation.

“I used to dread studying, but now I actually look forward to it,” Rishav said with a smile.

“I feel like I’m retaining information better and gaining a deeper understanding of the material.”

Perhaps most significantly, Rishav’s new found inner peace has strengthened his relationships with friends and family. He is now more attentive, empathetic, and willing to listen, rather than simply waiting for his turn to speak.

“I used to be so caught up in my own thoughts and emotions that I would often miss what the other person was saying,” he said.

“But now, I’m much more present and engaged in my conversations. It’s made a huge difference in my ability to connect with the people I care about.”

As Rishav continues on his meditation journey, he is eager to share the benefits he has experienced with others. He hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire more young people to explore the transformative power of this ancient practice.

“Transcendental Meditation has truly changed my life,” Rishav says.

“It’s given me a sense of inner calm and clarity that I never thought possible. I would encourage anyone who is struggling with anger, stress, or a lack of focus to give it a try. The rewards are truly life-changing.”
