FAQ

Why can’t I learn TM from a book or a CD?

Think how difficult it would be to learn to play a musical instrument without a teacher! The degree of success lies in the technique that is imparted by a qualified and experienced teacher. It is the same with TM. While Transcendental Meditation is easy and simple to learn, it’s successful practice necessitates personalized guidance. TM is therefore always taught by way of one-on-one instruction. And TM is always and only taught by a trained TM teacher who has been certified by our organization.

This is the traditional, time–tested procedure for learning the authentic Transcendental Meditation program — and there is no other body of published research on any other technique or program that documents the full range of extensive benefits that are gained from the twice-daily practice of this unique form of meditation.

How can TM be effortless? How does it work?

The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, through quieter levels of thought, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness — pure consciousness.

The video “ How TM Worksp ” provides a clear description of what happens during TM practice.

The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, through quieter levels of thought, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness — pure consciousness.
Through the simple practice of Transcendental Meditation, the mind naturally, of its own accord, settles down to experience more quiet levels of the mind until it comes to that level of our mind that is always quiet and always peaceful. We simply discover a deeper level of our mind – pure consciousness, or pure wakefulness –that is so compelling and fulfilling that the mind is drawn to it naturally. It only requires an understanding of how to let that process happen!
The video clip “How TM Works” offers an easy-to- understand explanation of the basics principles involved in the practice of Transcendental Meditation

What if I'm not good at controlling my mind?

The practice of Transcendental Meditation is very different from other kinds of meditation in that TM does not involve mind-control, concentration, contemplation, nor does it require watching our thoughts or our breathing – all of which tends to be boring which, in turn, makes us restless. In contrast, TM is simple, easy, effortless, and extraordinarily relaxing! With TM, it is often hard to believe that 20 minutes has gone by so quickly and so enjoyably –– and has produce such a settled and refreshed feeling.

I am by nature skeptical. Will that undermine my success with TM?

No, not at all. The effectiveness of TM is not undermined or enhanced by whether or not you believe in it. You can be as skeptical as you like, but if you follow the instructions and practice TM properly, you will gain the documented benefits just like everyone else. And this is for one reason –– TM activates the natural ability of the mind to settle down and gain a deep level rest in the mind and body. And on that basis stress is released, anxiety dissipates, a sense of mental and spiritual well-being is infused, and a wide range of benefits begins to be experienced over time. …All because of a very automatic process that has nothing to concepts and beliefs.

TM is offered through a non-profit organisation

The Transcendental Meditation technique is available in the Australia through Maharishi’s Global Administration through Natural Law Limited, which is registered with the Australian Charities for Not-for-Profits Commission as a not-for-profit educational organisation. All revenues from course fees go entirely to support the organisation’s educational initiatives.
